Binary uses only two digits (0 and 1). Each digit represents a power of 2. Converting to decimal means calculating the sum of each digit multiplied by 2 raised to its position (from right to left, starting at 0). For example, 1010 in binary equals 10 in decimal (1×8 + 0×4 + 1×2 + 0×1).
